A New Blog Teaching Kids (and adults) Art
The purpose of this blog is to teach children (and adults) the joy of art. Some of the blogs will be aimed at simple projects while others will be aimed at challenging myself (and others if they wish) to take their art to the next level. I freely admit that I am no Michelangelo or Leonardo Da Vinci, but I do love to create visual art, and love especially creating it for and with kids. In fact, open disclaimer, other than what I was personally taught in high school, which wasn't much because I was constantly in conflict with my art teacher; one of my greatest moments in life was winning the regional art competition and watching him rant and rave in class (maybe I'll recreate that production for one of my lessons?) So my experience is mostly self -taught, and what I've learned from watching people like Bob Ross, or Michael Whelan. I am constantly asked by the kids how they can draw like I do. My main advice is for them just to start doodling and scribbling and I mean to literally doodle and scribble, because that is one of the most basic skills that one can start with. In this simple exercise they learn pencil or pen control and connecting were they want the pen to go with where it ends up on the paper.
For the last 10 years I have worked in childcare and have also created artistic curriculum for the kids that I have worked with at the childcare centers my wife and and I own. www.valuedkids.com
Some of the projects that I have been asked to do have been challenging, while others have been simple after years of drawing.
I plan to start off with the basics of art and composition and then move into more challenging pictures and projects.
I hope that you enjoy the experience with me as I work to teach kids the joy of art. I dedicate this blog to all my grandkids, my nieces, and nephews, and all my great nieces and nephews, as well as all the kids I've worked with at Valued Kids Childcare Centers over the years in the Lewis County Washington area.
Thanks
